About Hyderabad Panchang
Hyderabad, the City of Pearls, follows IST (UTC+5:30). Its central-southern position gives it sunrise and sunset times between Delhi and Chennai. All Panchang timings follow the traditional Vedic standard used by Jyotish astrologers and pandits. All times are in IST (Indian Standard Time, UTC+5:30).
What is Panchang?
Panchang (पंचांग) is the traditional Hindu almanac used in Vedic astrology. The word comes from Sanskrit: pancha (five) + anga (limb). The five limbs are Tithi (lunar day), Nakshatra (lunar mansion), Yoga (luni-solar combination), Karana (half-tithi), and Vara (weekday). Together they describe the quality of time for any given moment.
Panchang is used to identify auspicious timings (Muhurtas) for weddings, travel, new ventures, pujas, and other important events. Inauspicious periods like Rahu Kaal, Yamaganda, and Gulika are identified to be avoided for new beginnings.
Why Panchang Times Differ by City
Although all of India follows IST (UTC+5:30), the actual sunrise and sunset times vary significantly by city because India spans over 29 degrees of longitude. Cities in the east (Kolkata) see the sun roughly 90 minutes before cities in the west (Ahmedabad). Since Panchang calculations — including Rahu Kaal, Abhijit Muhurta, and Udaya Lagna slots — are all derived from local sunrise, each city has its own distinct Panchang even on the same calendar date.
